Success is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice, and most of all, love of what you are doing or learning to do. ~Pele
Yes, it takes all those components to truly reach success. But in today’s post, we’re going to focus on the SACRIFICE that is required to successfully reach our goals.
Below, find the top 3 things an athlete can sacrifice to become better in their sport and in life!

#3… their ego.

By giving up your ego, you’ll become more self-aware of your strengths and opportunities. Doing so, will allow the athlete to grow in both!

#2… negative self-talk.

Once strengths and opportunities are identified, it’s critical to athlete success and well-being to ensure that positive internal chatter is primary! Kicking off an internal dialog with what went well increases confidence and nurtures a growth mindset. Need help with this? Pair up with a trusted team mate or coach and have this chat together. Kick it off with questions like, “what did you do well?” And follow it with, “If you could do something differently, what would it be?”

#1… “I” Yes, you read that right.

The athlete who sacrifices the “I” in exchange for the “we” is the one who is more likely to achieve their goals. Additionally, that athlete is the one who will likely find him/herself surrounded by a support system when the going gets tough. And isn’t this true in life as much as it is in sports? We spend a lot of time coaching athletes that we “win as a team, lose as a team.” Knowing you’re surrounded by a group of like minded peers that want to see you succeed is a game changer!
There are many other sacrifices parents and athletes make in an effort to experience success in sports, school, and life in general. Drop a comment below with some of the greatest sacrifices you’ve made to reach your goals!
